Hamilton Harbour - Week 4
Checking out an old spot in the Hamilton Harbour, I was happy to find them stacked up where Id saw them all those years ago. With the only access by light watercraft, i wasnt expecting to run into another fisherman, but Theo was there on his sup flinging flies alongside me. With lots of water, it was easy to keep our distance but it was also great to watch some awesome fly fishing while taking breaks from the constant action. I got my first mirror on a fly at the same spot where i got my first mirror on corn. This fish knew how to stress me out, it immediately went under the kayak and stayed there, I pulled anchor and drifted in part way to shore which put some line between us. The second fish was the biggest, likely a mid twenty pounder. The third was the most ferocious , striking my fly quickly after long cast into the wind. It tried to exit the reef into the 40 foot depths but i managed to steer it back in to my zone.
