Hey there, fellow anglers! It’s your buddy from The River Life here, and I’m excited to share my latest fishing adventure with you. Today, I headed out to the Maitland River in search of those elusive steelhead. While I didn’t catch any of the prized steelhead, I did manage to land a few bass and had a thrilling encounter with a monster carp! The Maitland River has been known for its steelhead fishing, but today it seemed like the fish were being a bit finicky. I spent a few hours on the water, casting my favorite steelhead pattern, but unfortunately, I didn’t get a single bite. The water was low and clear, which might have contributed to the lack of activity. I’ll keep trying, though - steelhead are a year-round species, and I’m confident that they’ll be back in the Maitland soon. After a couple hours I moved to the graveyard hole. No luck on the rainbows but the place was packed with bass, after catching a few on the swing i decided to pack it up and head back home.

Smallmouth Bass

But the real surprise came when I stopped at a local spot to grab a snack and refuel. I decided to try my luck with a corn rig, and that’s when the magic happened. I felt a massive tug on the line, and I knew I had a big one on the hook. After a few minutes of fighting, I finally landed a stunning 20-pound carp! It was a real monster, and I was thrilled to have caught it.

Carp

While the steelhead fishing was a bit slow today, I’m glad I was able to catch a few bass and land a monster carp. The Maitland River is always a great spot for fishing, and I’m looking forward to my next trip back.
